KT, Nokia, and Megazone Cloud are set to collaborate on the development of a 5G specialized network business based on AWS cloud.

Nokia announced that at MWC 2023 held in Barcelona, Spain on March 2, they agreed on a cooperation plan to develop a 'Private 5G' (5G specialized network) business utilizing AWS's cloud with Megazone Cloud.

Through this collaboration, KT, Nokia, and Megazone Cloud join forces to establish private 5G business strategies, develop management solutions, and build and operate cloud network infrastructure.

To enable the introduction of customized digital transformation (DX) solutions for customers, we plan to focus on implementing the following based on the AWS cloud: building an end-to-end private 5G service platform, developing cloud-dedicated equipment for private 5G, expanding Software as a Service (SaaS), developing a network operation management system for customers, conducting joint demonstration projects, identifying business opportunities for small businesses and securing a sales cooperation system, and strengthening professional personnel and capabilities.

At MWS 2023, KT exhibited a safety solution that can be utilized in industrial sites by linking mobile cameras to a 5G specialized network composed of AWS cloud and Nokia equipment. In addition, ultra-lightweight 5G specialized network 'core equipment' technology, developed through joint research between the domestic small and medium-sized enterprise 'Iruon' and KT Convergence Technology Institute, was also unveiled.

Meanwhile, KT is continuously striving to build a 5G specialized network ecosystem. Last year, through the Eeum 5G expansion project organized by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) and the Korea Information & Communication Technology Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), it led the introduction of DX solutions based on 5G specialized networks for Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, the Navy Headquarters, and Korea Aerospace Industries.

In the self-built 5G specialized network testbed, network technology was also developed that allows multiple customers to subscribe to and use 5G specialized network core equipment installed in the public cloud.

KT Service DX Division Head, Executive Director Min Hye-byeong, said, “KT will take the lead in revitalizing the private 5G market by building a service platform that supports customers in easily and without restrictions adopting and operating the solutions and networks they want.”
