Recently, not only professionals but also the general public have been looking for a professional-level production environment for video shooting, editing, and sharing, leading to the launch of modular storage products targeting professionals and prosumers.

On the 28th, a media conference was held at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul, to announce new SanDisk Professional products. Hosted by Western Digital (WD), the event featured the announcement of a new modular Pro Blade SSD, strengthening the company's professional lineup.

The SanDisk Pro Blade lineup features high-speed portable storage devices in a modular form factor for easy replacement and expandability to quickly edit and copy large amounts of high-resolution content.

The Pro Blade SSD Mac has a light weight, large capacity, and durability. It can withstand drops of up to 3 meters and pressure of 4,000 pounds, and products are available in capacities from 1 to 4 TB.
With the recent trend of increasing camera image quality, “there are cases where filming is interrupted due to heat generated when recording with an internal memory card on set,” said Shim Young-cheol, head of WD Korea headquarters.

The Pro Blade Transport is a modular, portable SSD case that mounts an SSD Mac via USB Type-C, enabling read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s. Its cooling aluminum heatsink dissipates heat, and when connected to a camera rig, it can record directly to the internally mounted SSD Mac, providing a solution to on-set challenges, according to Director Shim.

In addition, the Pro Blade Station can connect up to four Mac SSDs to quickly copy and edit data, providing professionals with a fast working environment. Supports active cooling system for 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 interface.

CEO Shim said, “Existing storage has used multiple SSDs for single purposes such as backup and editing,” and emphasized, “We have introduced the concept of improved modular storage tailored to the needs of professionals, and it will be a solution that satisfies all of the following: △mobile workflow, △portability and performance, and △ease of moving large amounts of data.”

As WD has announced the creation of an ecosystem for modular storage, it's expected that similar products will be released by other companies in the future. "We anticipate that the Pro Blade Modular will become a standard and be commercialized," said Director Shim, adding that the company aims for an open ecosystem without licensing.

Additionally, the company unveiled the Professional Pro G40 SSD, showcasing a durable portable storage solution. Featuring dual-mode compatibility, it supports both Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 interfaces without the need for a separate drive. It also boasts an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, ensuring durability, withstanding drops from up to 3 meters and crushing forces of up to 4,000 pounds.

“The range of users creating and sharing videos has been expanding recently,” said CEO Shim. “In the past, our products were targeted at professionals, but these days, we are developing products with the goal of expanding to general consumers, such as prosumers.” Accordingly, it was reported that a new SanDisk product experience zone was prepared at the Electromart Yeongdeungpo branch, providing a space for the general public to experience the product.
