LG Electronics is taking the lead in recycling waste cordless vacuum cleaner batteries and practicing ESG (environment, society, and governance) management.

LG Electronics will be running the "Battery Return" campaign from May 8 to June 30. This campaign will collect used batteries from its premium cordless vacuum cleaners, the CordZero A9 and A9S, allowing customers to participate in recycling and receive discounts on new battery purchases. The campaign is co-hosted by LG Electronics, the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and the Korea Resource Recycling Network, and sponsored by the Ministry of Environment.

Customers who wish to participate in the campaign can return their used cordless vacuum cleaner batteries to any LG Electronics service center nationwide, regardless of manufacturer. Upon returning the used battery, customers can purchase a new battery at the service center and receive a 20,000 won discount.

Customers who are unable to visit an LG Electronics service center can return their used batteries to a nearby home appliance collection box. The locations of these boxes can be found on the Resource Recycling Platform website (https://www.recycling-info.or.kr/act4r). Customers who choose this option can still purchase new batteries at a discounted price of 11,000 won on the LG Electronics website.

Rare metals such as nickel (31.91g), cobalt (4.21g), lithium (6.06g), and manganese (2.04g) are recovered from one battery of the LG CordZero A9S cordless vacuum cleaner. LG Electronics plans to recycle rare metals extracted from collected batteries into new battery materials.

LG Electronics also conducted a campaign to collect used cordless vacuum cleaner batteries last year. Over the two months beginning in May of last year, approximately 12.5 tons of used batteries were collected, equivalent to over 27,000 A9S batteries. The rare metals extracted from these batteries could be used to remanufacture 22,000 new A9S batteries. Considering that approximately 8 tons of used batteries were collected at the Chilseo Recycling Center operated by LG Electronics in 2021 alone, this represents a significant achievement for resource recycling.

This campaign is part of LG Electronics' ESG management efforts, which, as a leader in the domestic cordless vacuum cleaner market, promotes waste recycling and the circular economy.
