Hilscher, a leading solutions provider for industrial communications and automation based in Hattersheim, Germany, has partnered with related companies to establish the international standard for 'Single Pair Ethernet'.

Hilscher announced on the 10th that it recently joined SPESA (Single Pair Ethernet System Alliance).

SPESA has a common goal of establishing Single Pair Ethernet as the international standard for all areas of Ethernet connection replacement or new installation.

For the past 35 years, Hilscher's communication solutions have supported customers in identifying and utilizing new trends in automation in a timely manner.

Hilscher is playing a role in utilizing SPESA to expand the use of single-pair Ethernet technology in industrial sectors and sharing experiences and use cases with member companies.

This creates synergy effects that benefit all related partner companies as well.

Hilscher unveiled a pre-production model of its first SPE-based product, the Hilscher SPE Media Switch, at a joint booth with SPESA at HMI (Hannover Messe 2023).

This switch operates at OSI Layer 1 and is used to convert electrical signals between physical layers.

Now, customers can use 100BASE-TX cables for High Speed Ethernet and for Single Pair Ethernet SPE media switches equipped with 10BASE-T1L cables will be available. The product is scheduled for release in the second half of 2023.

Possible use cases include △integration of SPE sensors into brownfield applications to add functionality △integration of existing sensors into SPE networks △integration of IoT functions into existing systems.

Hilscher is presented with a golden opportunity to bridge the communication gap between sensors and the cloud and build homogeneous networks using SPE technology.

Single-pair Ethernet was one of the main topics at HMI 2023, and ambitious start-ups and large enterprises vied to announce innovative solutions based on the new Ethernet standard.

This is also reflected in the steady growth of the SPE community.
