On the 17th, global semiconductor company Analog Devices (ADI) announced a new investment of 630 million euros in ADI's European headquarters located in Raheen Business Park in Limerick, Ireland.

This investment will allow ADI to build a new, state-of-the-art 45,000-square-foot research and development and manufacturing facility. This new facility will support the development of next-generation signal processing innovations designed to accelerate digital transformation across a range of sectors, including industrial, automotive, and medical.

The new facility is expected to triple ADI's wafer production capacity in Europe. The investment will create 600 new jobs in the Midwest region of Ireland, significantly increasing ADI's European workforce, which currently stands at 1,500 in Ireland and 3,100 across Europe.

ADI is aggressively preparing for the next-generation market through a series of investment plans. The announcement follows a year ago of plans to invest €100 million in ADI Catalyst, a bespoke 100,000 sq ft facility at the Limerick campus.

“Ireland has been a key innovation center for ADI since 1976, thanks to its strong academic and research institutions, business ecosystem, and forward-thinking government leadership,” said Vincent Roche, ADI’s CEO and Chairman. “This next-generation semiconductor manufacturing facility and expanded R&D team will further expand ADI Limerick’s global footprint.”

Meanwhile, this investment is planned as part of a collaboration within the European Union's Major Project of Common European Interest in Microelectronics and Communication Technologies (IPCEI ME/CT) and will support cross-border research collaborations. ADI's IPCEI application, the first of its kind in Ireland since the project's launch, will receive final approval from the European Commission and support from the Irish government through IDA Ireland.
