The developer competition utilizing the world's first open-source IoT platform, Mobius, has concluded successfully, laying the foundation for the IoT global belt.

The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI, President Shin Hee-dong) announced on the 14th that it held an online and offline awards ceremony for the '7th KETI Mobius International Developer Competition' in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province on the 13th and showcased an IoT service based on international standards.

Mobius is the world's first open-source IoT platform, released by KETI in 2015 based on the Internet of Things standard oneM2M. Currently, approximately 1,000 companies and organizations around the world are using it for numerous projects.

This competition was held online for approximately three months starting in March, and 22 teams from around the world, including the United States, Korea, India, and Spain, advanced to the finals and submitted various IoT application service ideas.

KETI presented the 1st place award (Minister of Science and ICT Award), 2nd place award (KETI President Award, ETSI Secretary General Award), and 3rd place award (Best Ac) in 5 categories at the awards ceremony held at the Pangyo Enterprise Support Hub on the 13th.The winning team was selected for the Hievement Awards.

The first-place award, the Minister of Science and ICT Award, went to the Summit team from Summit Corporation, a domestic IT SME. They implemented a high-quality safety service for "smombies" who use their smartphones to cross crosswalks, leveraging oneM2M's latest standard technologies, including location information retrieval APIs.

The second prize, the KETI President's Award, went to Sejong University's SFIM team, which implemented a smart farm remote management system using the metaverse. Rather than simply monitoring the actual smart farm status in real time in the metaverse, a two-way linkage system that recognizes user actions in the metaverse environment and performs remote control of the actual farm was implemented using various APIs of the oneM2M standard.

Another second-place award, the ETSI Award, went to the CompEng PSU team from Pennsylvania State University, USA, for developing a robot remote control system utilizing AI image recognition and the oneM2M standard.

Meanwhile, KETI supports the winning teams to showcase their final research results at domestic and international exhibitions even after the competition, thereby enhancing the possibility of commercializing products and technologies.

Specifically, the '2023 Mobius - oneM2M International Forum' scheduled for October of this year will discuss ways to expand KETI's Mobius technology and oneM2M standard into Taiwan's IoT market, and plans to operate a Mobius-only promotional booth at the 6th Taiwan International AIoT Exhibition.

KETI President Shin Hee-dong said, “The Mobius International Developer Competition, which is now in its 7th year, was a time of possibility where we witnessed the limitless development of IoT services such as pedestrian safety for smartphone users and smart farm services utilizing the metaverse.” He added, “We will actively provide growth opportunities so that the excellent award-winning works can develop into actual commercial products and services, not just as contest results.”
