Nordic Semiconductor is actively helping developers simplify system design by launching a power management IC that integrates all key functions into a compact package.

Nordic announced today the launch of its new power management IC (PMIC), the nPM1300™.

The nPM1300 features two ultra-high-efficiency buck converters, two load switches and a low-dropout (LDO) voltage converter, as well as integrated battery charging, making it an ideal solution for battery-powered applications.

Additionally, the bill-of-materials (BoM) cost of the final product can be reduced by integrating circuits that typically require five or more individual components onto a single chip.

This product is released with the nPM1300 Evaluation Kit and PowerUP PC app. This evaluation kit and app enable developers to easily evaluate, configure, and implement the nPM1300 PMIC without writing any code.

Additionally, this PMIC provides accurate fuel gauge functionality and unique system management capabilities for low-power wireless applications.

The fuel gauge function based on the nPM1300's proprietary algorithm utilizes voltage, current, and temperature monitoring to provide higher accuracy while maintaining significantly lower power consumption of the PMIC compared to Coulomb Counter type fuel gauges.

Nordic is the first company to achieve high accuracy while maintaining low power consumption, a feature not yet found in competing PMICs.

Using the kit and our nPM PowerUP app, developers can quickly set up and minimize the power consumption of their applications without having to write any software.”

The nPM1300 evaluation kit is currently available through Nordic distribution partners, and the nPM1300 PMIC in QFN and CSP packages is scheduled for volume production from October 2023. Samples are available from Nordic Korea.
