To build and expand the domestic system semiconductor ecosystem, the Semiconductor Fabless Alliance has been officially launched and will establish a cooperative system that includes discovering and connecting with companies in demand and providing R&D support.

The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) held a launch ceremony for the Semiconductor Fabless Alliance at the Gyeonggi Startup Campus on the 10th to establish a win-win cooperation ecosystem between semiconductor demand and supply companies.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key officials including Lee Yong-pil, Director General of Advanced Industry Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Shin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam City, Shin Hee-dong, President of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Lee Seo-gyu, President of the Korea Fabless Industry Association, Park Cheong-won, Executive Vice President of the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Industry Promotion Association, Lee Dong-wook, Executive Vice President of the Korea Display Industry Association, and Cho Young-hoon, Executive Vice President of the Korea Robot Industry Association.

A total of 14 organizations representing domestic industries such as semiconductors, displays, and robots have signed a business agreement to promote mutual growth and vitalize the semiconductor fabless ecosystem, thereby discussing the specific operational direction of the fabless alliance.all.

Specifically, through this business agreement, the participating organizations will focus on cooperation in the following areas: △discovering and fostering companies in demand in the system semiconductor field, △supporting connections between fabless companies and companies in demand, △R&D and commercialization of system semiconductor technology innovation, and △training of system semiconductor design experts.

The Alliance will form a joint working council centered on six major technology sectors: mobile, home appliances, mobility, computing systems, robots/bio-healthcare, and energy/others. The alliance will create demand for R&D cooperation in various technology fields and operate a cooperation platform to strengthen the connection between demand and supply companies, such as through technology trend seminars and intellectual property consulting.

In particular, in order to overcome the relatively poor collaboration between demand companies and fabless companies in the domestic system semiconductor industry, a practical R&D ecosystem based on actual corporate demand is expected to be created.

KETI, which will oversee future alliance operations, is expected to support the strengthening of fabless companies' technological capabilities by providing services such as guidance on supplier technology challenges, joint use of research equipment, and joint implementation of national R&D.

Shin Hee-dong, president of the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, said, "The link between supply and demand companies is the key to fostering system semiconductors," and added, "The government has also recognized the importance of the semiconductor industry by announcing a strategy to achieve a semiconductor superpower and promoting a national high-tech industry specialized complex, and is expanding related investments." Lee Seo-gyu, chairman of the Korea Fabless Industry Association, said, "Fabless is a key industry that can achieve sophistication and high added value in the system industry in response to future industrial needs, as it is at the boundary between demand companies such as home appliances, mobile devices, and robots and the system industry."
