Samsung Electronics President Roh Tae-moon stated in his contribution that the Galaxy Foldable, which will be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 26, has a refined design that remains faithful to its original functions and usability.

Late last year, I was appointed head of the Samsung Electronics MX Business Division and also took on the role of head of the Design Management Center.

As an engineer, I've always known that ultimate design and technological innovation for our customers are inseparable. However, this new role has made me realize that only when design and research and development (R&D) work together synergistically can we create truly innovative user experiences.

I worked with Samsung designers to discuss our design strategy and future growth direction.

■ A promise that does not change with time

In fact, Samsung's design philosophy was already established in 1996. This is a promise to pursue ‘design that starts from the user and embodies tomorrow.’

It is our firm belief that all Samsung products and experiences must start with the customer.

As the ways people interact and experience things constantly change, a user-centered design philosophy is more relevant than ever.

Based on this philosophy, reflecting the new era that prioritizes experience over performance and pursues meaningful connections over technology, we have derived our design direction into three directions: "pursuing essence," "innovative," and "harmonious."

Design that pursues essence means being simple, clear, and faithful to the product's original function and purpose.

Innovative design means originality that provides new experiences and values that have never been seen before.

A harmonious design is one in which all design elements are in harmony and, going one step further, is a design that can embrace diverse societies, environments, and values.

■ Design that starts with the user and captures tomorrow

This design philosophy and direction is reflected in the new products we will be introducing to you soon.

Reflecting the new design direction, the Galaxy Foldable has implemented a refined design that is more faithful to its original function and usability.

I believe that the simple yet sophisticated design achieves both meaningful usability and aesthetic appeal.

Additionally, it has raised the bar for innovation with its ergonomic design. A difference of a millimeter in thickness may sound trivial, but even these subtle changes reflect sophisticated engineering and craftsmanship.

We've innovated to create a foldable that's thinner, lighter, and more robust than ever before, increasing portability, and you'll feel the change.

Beyond the exterior design, we will offer a customized foldable user experience that best suits users' needs.

By offering the most flexible camera experience, users can express themselves more freely. Without having to press the camera button, users can freely capture selfies from a variety of angles.

We've also raised the bar for efficiency with a multitasking experience on a large screen, allowing users to work, collaborate, and play games seamlessly.

The Galaxy Tab and wearables share this design direction. Each product remains true to its original function while harmoniously connecting with the others, providing a more powerful connected experience that expands usability without boundaries.

When we say “starting from the user,” we mean not only people, but also society, the environment, nature, etc.

Additionally, “capturing tomorrow” includes our responsibility to create a sustainable tomorrow for future generations.

We design Galaxy products with sustainability in mind. Because we believe that small actions, when combined, can create positive change for the environment and the future.
