ON Semiconductor, a leader in intelligent power and sensing technologies, is integrating its silicon carbide (SiC) devices into BorgWarner’s VIPER power modules for traction inverter solutions, with the potential to generate over $1 billion in future value creation.

Onsemi announced today that it has expanded its strategic partnership with BorgWarner for silicon carbide (SiC) by signing a long-term contract worth more than $1 billion.

BorgWarner, a global product leader providing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, plans to integrate ON Semiconductor’s 1200V and 750V power devices into its VIPER power modules.

Elite Silicon Carbide (EliteSiC) devices join ON Semiconductor’s portfolio of products as part of a long-standing strategic relationship between the two companies.

ON Semi offers high-performance EliteSiC technology while maintaining the high levels of quality, reliability and supply assurance required for the electric vehicle (EV) traction market. ON Semi brings decades of experience in designing, developing and manufacturing power semiconductor products to support successful adoption in high-volume automotive applications.

BorgWarner’s silicon carbide traction inverters already offer high efficiency, improved cooling, and faster charging in a more compact package than other EV options. BorgWarner’s solution, using EliteSiC technology, is expected to increase power density and efficiency, enabling longer range and better overall performance for EVs.
