SAP is stepping up to support the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) in centralizing data management and deriving insights using the SAP Business Technology Platform.

SAP announced on the 28th that it is collaborating with the Women's Tennis Association to modernize its data strategy on the cloud by adopting the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) to better serve players, spectators, and the organization.

The WTA, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, utilizes SAP technology in its matches. In particular, the Hana Bank Korea Open tennis tournament will be held in Seoul starting October 9.

WTA is implementing its vision to transform into a data-driven organization. The association plans to utilize the SAP Business Technology Platform to coordinate league data in a central system and provide reliable insights.

In addition, intelligent applications can be created more easily through the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities built into the SAP Business Technology Platform. Intelligent applications support corporate business workflows in making data-driven decisions, moving beyond simply obtaining information from historical data.

Since its establishment in 1973, WTA had been storing a massive amount of data generated in 27 separate databases. The Women's Tennis Association sought to leverage rich data sources to systematically inform critical decision-making regarding tour operations, players, and fans. Furthermore, as the volume of complex data increased, a comprehensive data management and analysis strategy was required. They hoped to identify and establish correlations within the data to secure new and valuable insights.

SAP BTP’s SAP HANA Cloud Database improved upon these issues with WTA. SAP BTP drove the simplification and modernization of data tools in the cloud. SAP HANA Cloud provides a managed in-memory cloud database, and SAP BTP enables the integration of data, analytics, application development, and automation into a single environment. This has strengthened the ability to transform decades of data into comprehensive insights, rapidly identify correlations, and extract new, hidden value.

Furthermore, the WTA utilized SAP solutions to enhance the data integrity, cybersecurity, redundancy, and maintainability of match data. Additionally, by leveraging a simplified technology environment within the cloud, it can rapidly drive innovation, transition to real-time systems, and optimize tour operations based on new data-driven insights.

Meanwhile, the Women's Tennis Association operates more than 50 events and over 6,000 matches worldwide annually, supporting approximately 1,650 players. In the fourth quarter of this year, starting with the Hana Bank Korea Open in Korea, it plans to host 18 tournaments around the world, including in France, Hong Kong, and China.
