Hilscher, a leading solutions provider in industrial communication and automation, is enabling industrial communication technology companies to expand the range of supported protocols available on its existing flexible multi-protocol embedded module, netRAPID 90.

Hillscher announced on the 12th that it supports the Open Modbus/TCP protocol stack for its latest ultra-small chip carrier product, netRAPID 90.

netRAPID 90 comes with a pre-loaded stack after passing all tests.


“With the launch of Open Modbus/TCP for netRAPID 90, Hilscher is providing our customers with greater flexibility in how they use their field devices,” said Simon Fisher, Hilscher’s Product Manager for Embedded Modules. Additionally, since our solutions can be integrated directly into customer products and enable rapid time-to-market, this additional protocol support will enable us to enter new global markets without excessive development costs,” he said.

The netRAPID 90 acts as a slave interface, supporting fieldbus, real-time Ethernet and IoT protocols in one design and is soldered to the motherboard like a standard QFP part.

With its ultra-small size of 15 x 32 mm and support for an extended temperature range, this module is also suitable for small sensors or robotic components.

Featuring minimal power consumption, these energy-efficient chip carriers are currently available for PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, and Open Modbus/TCP. Modules preloaded with POWERLINK, CANopen, Sercos, and CC-Link IE Field Basic protocol stacks are also on the horizon.
