ETRI Joins Hands with Canada's Xanadu for Quantum Computing
Published2023.09.15 09:20The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is joining forces with Xanadu, a global leader in optical-based quantum computing based in Canada, for quantum computing research.
ETRI announced on the 13th that it has decided to cooperate with 'Xanadu' in-house for research on quantum computing and machine learning, which are considered future computing technologies.

The main agenda of this collaboration is the development of technology in the field of 'photonics-based quantum computing and machine learning'.
It is a field of source computing technology for disruptive innovation in computational performance.
In addition, having confirmed that we share common goals regarding the development of hardware and software necessary for future quantum computing implementation and the utilization of machine learning, we plan to pursue joint research and personnel exchange.
Xanadu has achieved quantum supremacy in quantum computing, ranking third in the world after Google of the United States and the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).
Currently, more than 180 experts are conducting research and development, and it is known as a leading global company in quantum computing hardware that has received an investment of 275 million US dollars.
It is recognized as a global company leading hardware and software development, particularly in the field of optical-based quantum computing.
ETRI is also developing quantum technologies, such as hardware and system software for implementing quantum computers and fault-tolerant quantum computing through quantum error correction. We are conducting overall research.
"I hope this international research collaboration will serve as an opportunity for our quantum technology to advance to the next level, and I believe it will be of great help to the early development of quantum computing and research for the application of machine learning," said ETRI President Bang Seung-chan.
Xanadu CEO Christian Weedbrook also stated, “I hope that the two organizations will build a mutually beneficial relationship based on ETRI’s research capabilities. We will strive to advance quantum computing technology through future joint research and personnel exchanges.”
Quantum computers are a future technology that can determine the future competitiveness of nations and companies because they have the potential to efficiently tackle problems that are difficult to perform with classical computers.
Global companies such as Google, IBM, and Microsoft, as well as national-level entities, are competitively conducting research.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'

Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation.
