Applied Materials Korea (CEO Park Kwang-sun), a global leader in materials engineering solutions, has been recognized for its diverse activities, including protecting the domestic ecosystem, supporting local children's education and talent development, and reducing global carbon emissions.

Applied Materials Korea announced on the 25th that it won the Comprehensive ESG Award at the '2023 K-ESG Management Awards'.
The 'K-ESG Management Award', sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Environment, and the Fair Trade Commission, is an award presented to companies that practice exemplary ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management and contribute to the spread of a sustainable management culture.

Applied Materials Korea was honored with this year's Comprehensive ESG Award for its diverse activities, including protecting the local ecosystem for a sustainable future, supporting local children's education, fostering domestic semiconductor talent, and reducing global carbon emissions.

Applied is engaged in various activities to protect the domestic environment and promote sustainability. For the third consecutive year, Applied has been running the "Our River Guardians" project in collaboration with the Korea Federation for Environmental Movements. This project purifies the water quality of national rivers in southern Gyeonggi Province and provides ecosystem protection education to youth and local residents.

In addition, Applied has been conducting environmental experience education for elementary, middle, and high school students in collaboration with the Seongnam Environmental Movement Federation since 2016. Applied's ecological environment experience education consists of two programs: an eco-tearing program for elementary school students, "Exploring the Wetland World in the Map with Waterfowl," and a birdwatching program for upper elementary school students and middle and high school students, "White-throated Plover Lives in Our Tancheon." This program received high marks across various criteria, including eco-friendliness, excellence, stability, operational management, and instructor expertise, and was designated as a "Ministry of Environment Excellent Environmental Education Program."

Applied also supports various educational programs for future generations in local communities. For four consecutive years, the company has sponsored the "With Harmony Orchestra Program" with the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, striving to improve the social skills and self-esteem of local children through cultural and artistic programs. We have also been supporting the 'Science Classroom with Applied Science' program for three consecutive years, which provides local children with various scientific learning and experience opportunities.

Since 2012, we have been participating in the 'Semiconductor Scholarship Award Ceremony' hosted by the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association every year to award scholarships, and we have been discovering and supporting young industry talents through the 'APPLIEDer' internship program and 'Reals', a group of university student supporters.

Over the past several years, Applied has made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint and increasing the transparency of its environmental reporting. By 2022, Applied aims to achieve 100% renewable electricity in the U.S. and 69% globally, reducing both Scope 1 (direct carbon emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect carbon emissions) emissions by 3% compared to 2019. During the same period, Applied's energy consumption increased by approximately 13%, demonstrating progress in decoupling emissions growth from business growth.
