[Editor's Note] DeepX attracted attention at the '2023 Semiconductor Exhibition (SEDEX)' by exhibiting its AI total solution as a comprehensive semiconductor company related to AI. At the exhibition booth, a total of four demos were presented, including a demo that classifies objects on the road and a server-level solution product that processes 33 channels simultaneously. DeepX also expressed confidence that it can reduce the massive carbon emissions of data centers based on the advantages of high efficiency and low power consumption. Furthermore, DeepX is about to enter the overseas market based on its AI total solution, and full-scale results are expected to be seen starting in 2024. Through an interview with Park Young-seop, Director of DeepX, who participated in SEDEX, we heard about DeepX's exhibits and strategies for conquering overseas markets.

■ What were your reasons and goals for participating in the Semiconductor Expo (SEDEX)?

SEDEX is an exhibition where the largest semiconductor companies in Korea participate, and DeepX also came here to showcase its technologies as an AI semiconductor company.

I also see this as an opportunity to showcase the technologies we have developed so far and what we have done in the application field.

■ Please explain the demos and products on display.

DeepX has four total solution products: DX-L1, L2, M1, and H1.

L1 is an accelerator that can process one camera application, L2 is an accelerator that can process three to four channels simultaneously, and M1 is an accelerator that can process ten channels simultaneously.

H1 is capable of handling server-level processing, currently handling 33 channels, but will be available in mass production next year. It is expected to handle more than 80 channels simultaneously.

■ There are notable moves to explore cooperation measures for overseas expansion. What are the market strategy and notable achievements?

The most important thing in the AI market is which products to incorporate AI into, and the market that DeepX is paying the most attention to is Taiwan.

We view the Taiwanese market as the most important market, as small devices such as laptops that we commonly use are produced in Taiwan through OEMs.

The products on display today have already begun promotion in Taiwan, and we are currently working on designing products for all OEMs based on these products.

■ The phrase related to reducing carbon emissions is noticeable under the DeepX logo at the booth. What does it mean?

The reason DeepX expanded from its main field of 'edge' to server chips is because Nvidia GPU products are widely used in data centers, which are one of the main causes of environmental destruction on Earth.

Because we are consuming a lot of energy and generating huge carbon emissions in the process, there is a need for low-power and highly efficient AI Inference Cards from an ESG perspective.

In this respect, DeepX believes that it will be able to contribute to reducing carbon emissions by launching environmentally superior products.

Many carbon emissions-related systems are emerging around the world, and we expect this to be a meaningful solution in this area as well.

■ What strategy do you plan to use to develop the market?

DeepX spoke with approximately 700 companies and focused on six markets: smart camera modules, automotive, AI CCTV, robots, AI servers, and consumer electronics.

The total product that contains all the needs of these fields is the DX-L1, L2, M1, and H1.

We're working on standardizing hardware platforms with key companies we've met around the world, and we expect to see a significant volume of these products starting next year.

■ A word to e4ds readers

We're already working on an open AI hardware platform initiative that will allow DeepX products to be used across a variety of platforms and add AI capabilities, so we expect to see continued meaningful results from this initiative.
