It is expected that Samsung Electronics will gradually install generative AI models in various products.

Samsung Electronics held the second day of the 'Samsung AI Forum 2023' event hosted by Samsung Research at the Samsung Electronics Seoul R&D Campus on the 8th. With approximately 150 AI experts from academia and industry in attendance, the generative AI model ‘Samsung Gauss’ developed by Samsung Research was unveiled for the first time at this forum.

'Samsung Gauss' is a generative AI model inspired by the genius mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, who established the normal distribution theory, and signifies the infinite possibilities of generative AI pursued by Samsung.

On this day, Samsung Electronics announced, “We plan to develop generative AI technology to promote work innovation within the company using ‘Samsung Gauss’ and further provide new experiences in people’s daily lives.”

Currently, Samsung Gauss has been conducting its own beta testing since last month and is expected to be commercialized within the year.

Samsung Gauss is composed of three models based on machine learning technology: △a language model that generates text (Samsung Gauss Language), △a code model that generates code (Samsung Gauss Code), and △an image model that generates images (Samsung Gauss Image).

First of all, the language model LLM (Large Language Model) is one of the application areas. The language model consists of various models for cloud and on-device. It makes tasks such as writing emails, summarizing documents, and translating easier and faster.

'Code.i', an AI coding assistant developed based on a code model, is optimized for in-house software development and helps developers code easily and quickly. It also provides services such as code explanation and test case generation through an interactive interface.

Image models help you easily create creative images such as photos or drawings, and change existing images as you like. It also makes it easy to convert low-resolution images to high-resolution ones.

Samsung Electronics also introduced on-device AI technology utilizing Samsung Gauss. Samsung Electronics said, “We plan to gradually install these generative AI models in our products.”

Consumers can use products equipped with on-device AI technology, which implements AI functions in the form of chips developed by Samsung Research, to control devices, summarize sentences, and correct grammar more easily and conveniently without transmitting personal information.

In his welcoming speech, Vice President and Head of Samsung Research’s Global AI Center Kim Dae-hyun said, “We will continue to support research related to generative AI and work with industry and academic leaders to grow together.”
