Samsung Electronics is supplying energy-saving appliances to a smart city project in Sweden, laying the groundwork for its entry into the net-zero market in Europe.

Samsung Electronics will supply its 'Net Zero Home' solution to 'Brobyholm Smartcity' being built near Stockholm, Sweden.

Brobyholm Smart City is a project by local real estate developer S Property Group to build a new smart city with 2,000 households within commuting distance of Stockholm.

Samsung Electronics is building a net-zero home in cooperation with SMA Solar Technology, a German solar technology, storage, and charging company, and ABB, a Swiss automation solutions specialist.

The smart city generates electricity through SMA's solar power generation system and efficiently manages the generated electricity using an energy storage system (ESS).

Samsung Electronics supplies various smart home appliances such as refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers, while ABB installs blinds and switches.

Power usage inside the house and Home appliances and smart home devices are controlled through Samsung Electronics' integrated connectivity platform, SmartThings.

SmartThings Energy allows you to monitor energy production and usage. In particular, AI-powered energy-saving mode allows connected appliances to automatically reduce energy consumption.

Samsung Electronics and its partners opened a model house on the 9th (local time) so that consumers can experience net-zero homes in person before the actual sale.

This smart city is scheduled to begin occupancy in 2025 with approximately 500 households, and will be sold sequentially until 2028.

Samsung Electronics has been working to build net-zero homes by participating in projects such as the Sterling Ranch smart city project in Colorado, USA, and plans to actively expand its business in Europe through this collaboration in Sweden.

Samsung Electronics Home Appliances Business Division Vice President Park Chan-woo said, “For the first time in Sweden, Samsung Electronics has laid the foundation for the ‘Net Zero Home’ business, a future type of housing,” and “We will continue to introduce various services based on SmartThings so that users can easily and conveniently manage their products and even save energy.”
