Data quality certification applications are now being accepted in earnest, and it is expected that disputes between demanders and suppliers will be reduced through certification.


The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced that it will begin accepting applications for data quality certification from private organizations, including companies, that possess data starting November 7, 2023.

In July, the Ministry of Science and ICT designated three organizations, including CAS Co., Ltd., Wisestone Co., Ltd., and the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association, as “data quality certification agencies.”

Afterwards, in order to operate objective and fair quality certification, common evaluation criteria and operating regulations were established among quality certification agencies through a review by an advisory group comprised of experts in policy, law, and technology.

Companies wishing to receive data quality certification can apply for quality certification on the websites of quality certification agencies such as CAS Co., Ltd., Wisestone Co., Ltd., and the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association. They can also check detailed certification schedules and fees through certification consultations.

Companies that have obtained certification through application will be provided with a data quality certificate and certification mark in accordance with the Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on Promotion of Data Industry and Utilization (effective January 3, 2023). Certification agencies can use the certification mark to externally promote the quality of their data.

dataIn this case, the process and method for verifying data quality during the transaction and distribution process are very complicated, and it is expected that products and services that have obtained quality certification will have fewer disputes between suppliers and demanders due to data quality.

In addition to the quality certification of structured data content being implemented this time, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to continuously expand and develop the data quality certification system, including AI data quality and data management systems, while strengthening management and supervision of quality certification agencies to ensure fair operation of the quality certification system.

Eom Yeol, Director General of the Artificial Intelligence-Based Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “With the advent of the digital era represented by super-large artificial intelligence (AI), the value of high-quality data is becoming more important,” and added, “We will actively operate the data quality certification system so that it can promote data quality management activities by domestic companies and create an ecosystem where high-quality data is traded and distributed.”
