June 3, 2014, Seoul – NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI) announced the launch of Gen 9 (Gen9) LDMOS RF power transistors for wireless and cellular base stations. These groundbreaking devices take LDMOS transistor performance to the next level by increasing efficiency by 5% in Doherty applications. The first Gen9 transistors are designed for symmetric and asymmetric Doherty power amplifiers and provide a benchmark for power density in existing high-capacity packages. Gen9 technology is optimized for operation in the 3.4–3.8 GHz frequency band, which mobile carriers will use globally next year. NXP is showcasing its first Gen9 products at IMS 2014 (Booth 1733).
As 4G mobile data services become available worldwide, the Gen9 product family focuses on compact, efficient, and high-performance LTE base stations. Building on the outstanding reputation established by the previous LDMOS generation, Gen9 provides RF power amplifiers with unrivaled efficiency and superior linearization capabilities at the industry's lowest prices.
NXP's LDMOS RF power amplifiers have been developed with various telecom markets in mind to address challenges represented by various cellular standards and frequency bands. Gen9 will continue this trend by optimizing for higher frequency bands than those currently used by mobile operators. This enables designers to design devices before 2015, when these frequency bands will be used.
