The Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Industry (Chairman Woo-Young Lee) has joined hands with the Next Generation Convergence Technology Research Institute to train semiconductor experts.

The Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Industrial Technology announced on the 4th that it signed an MOU with the Next Generation Convergence Technology Research Institute to foster semiconductor experts in Gyeonggi Province through systematic education based on the National Competency Standards (NCS).

As an institution that supports workers' lifelong learning and vocational skills development training, the corporation supports the development, improvement, and utilization of national job competency standards in accordance with the 'Qualifications Basic Act'.

To date, 1,093 subcategories of national job competency standards have been created by industrial complexes, companies, industry associations and organizations, and education, training, and industrial field experts.

In particular, the national competency standards for semiconductors were revised in November to reflect the rapid advancement of the industry and the specialization of jobs.

The Korea Institute of Convergence Technology (KIT) is a specialized research institute for convergence technology jointly established by Gyeonggi Province and Seoul National University. It promotes convergence technology research and support projects, technology startups, and science and technology popularization projects.

Representative projects include the creation and operation of the autonomous driving industry ecosystem in Pangyo Zero City, the establishment of a test bed for semiconductor sub-components (materials, parts, and equipment) industry elements, and the training of semiconductor industry professionals.

Among them, the semiconductor industry professional training program has been in operation since this year, and has provided quality education to 355 people, including students and faculty of specialized high schools in Gyeonggi Province, university students, job seekers, and employees, through collaboration with excellent universities and utilizing the institute's latest educational training facilities.

Starting next year, the Industrial Complex and the Financial Supervisory Service willTo ensure that trainees acquire the job skills required by semiconductor companies, the two organizations plan to design and operate a curriculum utilizing the National Competency Standards. Upon completion of the program, both organizations will award a "Certificate of Completion of the National Competency Standards-Based Curriculum," which will support employment, career transfers, and career development path planning within semiconductor companies.

As a preliminary step, starting in December, the corporation will provide consulting services to the Korea Institute of Vocational Education and Training (KIET) on curriculum design based on the National Competency Standards. Furthermore, to ensure quality control and enhance the credibility of the curriculum, the KIET plans to establish a "National Competency Standards-Based Curriculum Recognition Committee," comprised of experts from the education and industry sectors.

Chairman Lee Woo-young said, “If the National Competency Standards of the Industrial Complex and the semiconductor infrastructure of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) come together, it will create a powerful synergy,” and added, “We will strengthen the practicality and usability of the National Competency Standards to foster talent in cutting-edge core industries such as semiconductors and future vehicles.”
