Ryu Seok-hyun, who took office as the 19th president of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM), announced in his inaugural address his plan to secure R&D leadership with a significant gap as a "world-class comprehensive machinery research institute leading K-Machine."

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM), under the Ministry of Science and ICT, announced that Ryu Seok-hyun, the 19th president, took office on December 8 and officially began his term.

President Ryu Seok-hyun stated that he would secure R&D leadership with a significant gap as the KIMM, a "world-class comprehensive mechanical research institute leading K-Machine," and presented management goals including building a digital R&D with a significant gap, establishing a system and organization suitable for future and strategic technologies and R&D with a significant gap, and accelerating technology commercialization and technology transfer.

Director Ryu Seok-hyun received a bachelor's degree in materials engineering from Pusan National University in 1983, and a master's degree in materials engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1989 and a doctorate in materials engineering in 1998.

After joining Doosan Heavy Industries in 1983, he served as Strategic Innovation Advisor, Head of Technology Management Team (Senior Managing Director), Vice President, and CTO, and has served as the Head of Cooperation at the University of Science and Technology (UST) since 2021.

He also served as the Chairman of the Planning Committee of the Korean Academy of Engineering, a Special Committee Member for Future Talent at the Ministry of Science and ICT, and a member of the Alchemist Grand Challenge at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Director Ryu Seok-hyun's term begins on December 8, 2023. It is three years.
