Announcement of Policy Directions for Fostering the EV Charger Industry and Entering the Global Market
12.7 million chargers deployed by 2030, charging infrastructure market $325 billion

The government has established policy directions to foster the electric vehicle charger industry and facilitate its entry into the global market through industry consultations and other means.

On the 13th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (hereinafter the Ministry) launched the public-private joint 'Mobility Charging Industry Convergence Alliance' and announced 'policy directions for fostering the electric vehicle charger industry and entering the global market.'

Global electric vehicle usage is projected to expand from 30 million units in 2022 to 240 million units in 2030, and the number of electric vehicle chargers is also expected to increase from 2.7 million units in 2022 to 12.7 million units in 2030, with the charging infrastructure market also expected to grow to $325 billion by 2030.

Consequently, as export opportunities grow and competition among companies to secure a leading position in the global market intensifies, policies are needed to foster globally competitive industries and expand exports.

On this day, the government presented a goal to secure five core technologies and software by 2030, increase global market share from 1.2% in 2022 to 10% in 2030, and foster at least five charger manufacturers with sales of over 50 billion won, based on three pillars: strengthening the industrialization capabilities of chargers, expanding entry into overseas markets, and revitalizing the charger ecosystem.br />
To implement this, the 'Mobility Charging Industry Convergence Alliance' was launched with the participation of about 40 companies and 20 organizations, including the automotive industry, charger manufacturers, parts suppliers, charging service operators, and testing and certification institutions. It was decided to proceed by forming subcommittees in four areas: manufacturing innovation, service-grid convergence, strengthening the reliability of testing and certification, and cooperation for market entry.

First Vice Minister Jang Young-jin emphasized, “I hope the ‘Mobility Charging Industry Convergence Alliance’ will serve as a stepping stone to foster the mobility charging industry as an export growth engine, and the government will actively support corporate activities and strive even harder to ease regulations and resolve corporate difficulties.”
