UNIST (President Lee Yong-hoon) held an event to share the achievements of its efforts to drive innovation in the southeastern region's industries through artificial intelligence (AI).

UNIST held the 'AI Innovation Day' event at UNIST Building 108 on the 19th.

This event was organized to introduce the business achievements of the AI Innovation Park, which UNIST has been operating since 2021, and to strengthen cooperation.

The event was a great success with over 200 attendees, including representatives of companies in the southeastern region, research institutes, university professors, students, and Ulsan City officials.

In his congratulatory remarks, Lee Chae-kwon, Head of the Future Strategy Headquarters of Ulsan Metropolitan City, said, “I am grateful that the AI Innovation Park has discovered many projects and borne good fruit,” and urged, “I hope it will continue to serve as a stepping stone for local companies to enhance their competitiveness through digital transformation.”

At the event, achievements in solving real-world corporate problems using AI in fields such as manufacturing and biomedical were presented. These results stemmed from the Project-Based Learning (PBL) practical training courses at the AI Novatus Academia. AI Novatus Academia, an employee training program, has produced 281 graduates from 155 companies in the Ulsan and Gyeongnam regions over the past three years. In addition, the Academia has accumulated a database of 83 industrial field applications through its PBL practical training.

Research results in the field of AI conducted in collaboration with local industries were also unveiled. UNIST’s AI professors are strengthening the AI innovation capabilities of local companies by carrying out 20 research projects in areas such as quality innovation, process optimization, energy saving, occupational safety, disease prediction, and new material development.

Seven resident companies of the AI Innovation Park, including Core Dot Today, ABH, and Simdo Company, presented their business models and technological capabilities at the event and expanded opportunities for collaboration. Currently, 12 specialized AI startups are housed in the AI Innovation Park, receiving support such as conducting joint research.

In his welcoming remarks, UNIST Vice President Lee Jae-yong stated, “I hope that the AI Innovation Day event will develop into a forum for public discourse where the industrial and academic sectors of Ulsan and the Southeast region can share knowledge and experience to lead industrial innovation.”

Shim Jae-young, Director of the UNIST AI Innovation Park, stated, “UNIST AI Innovation Park has built a distinctive AI innovation ecosystem suitable for Ulsan and the industrial cities of the southeastern region through education, research, and startup incubation activities,” adding, “We will continue to strive to achieve the goal of AI-based industrial innovation.”
