ZVS Flyback Converter Chipset for USB-C PD Adapters and Chargers Launched

Infineon Technologies (hereafter Infineon) is responding to the growing demand for compatible chargers due to the growing popularity of USB-C PD (Power Delivery) charging.

Infineon announced on the 30th that it has launched the secondary-side controlled ZVS flyback converter chipset EZ-PD™ PAG2.

The chipset integrates USB PD, a synchronous rectifier, and a PWM controller, and uses the CYPET121 pulse edge transformer (PET) to ensure efficient communication and isolation between the primary and secondary sides.

It also supports NCP-ACF (non-complementary active clamp flyback) and QR-ZVS (quasi-resonant flyback for zero voltage switching) topologies, which are suitable for high-efficiency USB-C adapters, chargers, and travel adapters, to achieve improved efficiency.

The EZ-PD PAG2 family provides versatile and efficient PD solutions for a variety of applications.

It provides PD 3.1 SPR (Standard Power Range) with PPS (Programmable Power Supply) and 28V EPR (Extended Power Range) for fast and stable charging.

Suitable for a wide range of wattages, this chipset is compatible with BC v1.2, AFC, Apple charging, QC5.0, It supports universal AC line input of 90~265VAC, so it can be used anywhere in the world.

It provides programmable soft start and controlled power supply using external SS capacitors and supports discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), critical conduction mode (CrCM), continuous conduction mode (CCM), as well as burst mode and skip mode for various load conditions.

This flexibility makes it ideal for power sources and device types in many regions of the world.

The EZ-PD PAG2 family consists of four specialized products:

EZ-PD PAG2S-AC is a secondary side ACF controller with efficient energy recycling function and includes USB-PD protocol function, while EZ-PD PAG2S-QZ is a ZVS controller focused on QR-ZVS flyback and includes USB-PD protocol function.

The EZ-PD PAG2P is a primary-side HV startup controller that integrates various functions, including high-voltage startup, PET receiver, gate driver, and fault protection, to enhance system performance. It features an x-cap discharge and Vcc boost converter.

Finally, the EZ-PD PAG2S-PS is an integrated USB PD and SR (synchronous rectification) controller that can be paired with third-party PWM (pulse width modulation) controllers.
