Samsung Electronics has successfully developed the industry's fastest LPDDR5X, which offers 25% improved performance and 30% improved capacity compared to previous-generation products, and is expected to be able to meet the demand for low-power, high-performance semiconductors.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 17th that it has successfully developed the industry's fastest operating speed, 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM.
This product is a low-power, high-performance memory solution implemented with the smallest chip among 12nm-class LPDDR DRAMs, and is optimized for the on-device AI era.
In the future, it is expected to be applied to various fields beyond the mobile field, such as AI PCs, AI accelerators, servers, and battlefields.
Compared to the previous generation product, performance has improved by 25% and capacity by 30%, and a single mobile DRAM package supports up to 32 gigabytes (GB).
Samsung Electronics has improved power consumption by approximately 25% compared to the previous generation by applying 'power variable optimization technology' and 'low-power operating range expansion technology' that adjust power according to performance and speed to enhance the low-power characteristics of this product.
This allows for longer battery life on mobile devices and reduced energy consumption for processing data on servers, resulting in a lower total cost of ownership.(TCO, Total Cost of Ownership) reduction is possible.
“As demand for low-power, high-performance semiconductors increases, the applications of LPDDR DRAM will expand from existing mobile devices to servers,” said Bae Yong-cheol, Executive Vice President and Head of Product Planning at Samsung Electronics’ Memory Business Division. “Samsung Electronics will continue to innovate by providing solutions optimized for the upcoming on-device AI era through close collaboration with customers.”
Samsung Electronics plans to mass-produce its new LPDDR5X DRAM in the second half of the year after verifying the product through collaboration with application processor and mobile companies.
