The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (President Shin Hee-dong, hereinafter referred to as KETI) has joined hands with Korea Southern Power Co. to create an artificial intelligence ecosystem for the power generation industry.

KETI announced on the 26th that it signed a business agreement (MOU) for cooperation in AX (AI Transformation) in the power generation field with Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. (CEO Seung-Woo Lee, hereinafter Southern Power) at its headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on the 25th.

KETI is a public research institute in the electronics and IT fields that supports technological innovation and new technology development of small and medium-sized enterprises. It is leading the artificial intelligence, data, and robot technologies required for: △predicting electricity demand and power generation, △monitoring the status of power generation facilities and detecting abnormal signs, △integrated management of various power sources, and △unmanned automation inside and outside power generation facilities.

As one of the six power generation companies in Korea, Southern Power is focusing on AI transformation in the power generation sector, leading to datafication and automation of work, such as the recent establishment of its own LLM (Large Language Model), wind power generation forecasting project, and development of an AI-based power generation facility monitoring system.

Through this business agreement, KETI and Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation to lead AX in the power generation sector, including establishing a strategy for AI conversion in the power generation sector, research and demonstration for internalization of AX technology, training of professional personnel and technical support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and commercialization of technology for AX conversion.

In particular, the signing ceremony on this day featured a 5G-based autonomous robot with enhanced security and no line of sight. Remote shared control technology and demonstration of a surveillance and reconnaissance robot jointly developed by KETI using it, and human-centered AX technology applicable to development fields such as AI technology for human-friendly human-machine interface were introduced.

Going forward, the two organizations plan to continue discussions on cooperation in core areas such as artificial intelligence, robots, and data to lead the development sector AX.

In particular, the two organizations plan to promote technological cooperation based on KETI's core technologies, such as complex inference technology that understands the speaker's situation and context, AI learning data construction and utilization and learning algorithm source technology, and robot intelligence and work technology.

KETI President Shin Hee-dong said, “As artificial intelligence is receiving attention as a key technology for future industrial development, I expect that today’s business agreement will serve as an opportunity for cooperation for the transition to AI in the power generation sector.” He added, “In the future, both organizations will focus their capabilities on creating synergy not only in joint technology development to lead the power generation sector AX, but also in training related personnel and commercialization.”
