Demonstration for the development of robot delivery services within apartment complexes is set to begin in earnest.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Park Sang-woo) and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (President Lee Han-jun, hereinafter LH) announced on the 21st that they will support phased demonstrations within apartment complexes to develop robot delivery technology within apartment complexes.

Although robot delivery technology has advanced rapidly in the private sector, there have been limitations in developing robot delivery services within apartment complexes due to difficulties in securing testbeds.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, LH, and the Korea Integrated Logistics Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support the demonstration of robot delivery within multi-unit housing, and following subsequent discussions, specific support measures for the demonstration have been established.

First, starting in June, the multi-unit housing experimental building within the LH Housing Performance Research and Development Center, a facility for developing and experimenting with residential environment technologies, will be provided as a demonstration testbed for robot delivery.

Accordingly, robot companies will be able to demonstrate various technologies, such as mapping for simulation in environments similar to actual delivery sites, communication integration between robots and elevators, and indoor horizontal and vertical movement.

In addition, to support demonstrations in actual multi-unit housing, LH plans to identify the specific demonstration needs (region, duration, and technological level) of robot companies and actively support the utilization of LH rental housing and other facilities that meet these requirements as testbeds.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will hold a meeting with LH, the Korea Integrated Logistics Association, and eight robot companies at the LH Housing Performance Research and Development Center (Sejong) on the afternoon of May 22.

We plan to hold a quarterly public-private consultative body meeting on robot delivery to listen to industry concerns and discuss support measures for service expansion.

Robot companies wishing to utilize testbeds such as the LH Housing Performance Research & Development Center and rental housing, or to participate in public-private consultative bodies, can apply through the Korea Integrated Logistics Association.

Park Ji-hong, Deputy Minister for Transport and Logistics at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, “We will continue to communicate with the private sector and spare no support to ensure that robot delivery services, which have newly emerged due to advancements in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robots, become established in our daily lives.”
