Securing an additional 100,000 battery production capacity per year, with production reaching up to 300,000 units per year by 2025.

Global mobility company Webasto has secured an additional annual battery production capacity of 100,000 units with the completion of a new factory with over 15,000 square meters of production and storage space.

Webasto expanded its state-of-the-art electric vehicle battery pack factory in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, and held a completion ceremony on the 21st.

As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, Webasto, an innovative systems partner for the mobility industry, is expanding its operations in Korea by adding a battery pack production plant to its existing plant in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.

This expansion comes just two years after Webasto began mass producing electric vehicle battery packs in Korea.

Webasto's state-of-the-art Dangjin Battery Campus produces and ships battery systems to customers in Korea, and with the expansion of its factory, it will be able to produce up to 300,000 batteries annually by 2025.

The official opening ceremony of the new plant was attended by Joerg Sandmann, CEO of Webasto APAC, Choi Tae-bong, CEO of Webasto Korea, and Choi Yong-doo, plant manager. Guests included Marcel Bartling, member of the Webasto SE Board of Management and head of Webasto's global electrification division, Choi Je-hoon, head of the Hyundai Motor Group Battery Development Center, Choi Woo-seok, managing director of the Hyundai Motor Group's electrification components purchasing division, and Jorn By.German Deputy Ambassador to Korea Jörn Beißert and Dangjin Vice Mayor Kim Young-myeong were in attendance.

“The completion of the Dangjin 2nd battery plant demonstrates what we have accomplished together so far and our vision for what we will achieve in the future,” said Choi Tae-bong, CEO of Webasto Korea. “Seeing more and more cars equipped with Webasto batteries as well as roof systems on Korean roads makes me proud of our excellent Korean team.”
