KT became the first Korean company to win the '2024 WSIS (World Summit on Information Society) Prize'.

KT announced on the 31st that its 'KT Digital Citizen' project won the Champion award in the Ethical dimensions of the information society category at the '2024 WSIS (World Summit on Information Society) Prize' held in Geneva, Switzerland on the 30th.

WSIS is an international conference organized by UN-affiliated organizations, such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), to promote the efficient development of the information society and bridge the digital divide between nations and social classes. Since 2012, the WSIS Prize has been held to select and award outstanding organizations and companies in 18 categories, including information and communications infrastructure, access to information and knowledge, and ethical perspectives on the information society.

Over 1,050 projects were submitted to this WSIS Prize. Over 2 million stakeholders worldwide conducted online voting, and the projects that received the most votes in each category were awarded.

KT's 'Digital Citizen Project' has been underway since 2022 with the collaboration of about 20 companies and specialized institutions, including Ewha Womans University, Yonsei University Severance Hospital, and Kim & Chang, to create a safe, secure, and sustainable digital world.

Organizations participating in the KT Digital Citizen Project have developed and provided digital citizenship education content to prevent digital over-immersion and cyberbullying. They are also joining forces to prevent and resolve the side effects of the digital environment, such as by developing tools for diagnosing digital citizen types and levels, and providing psychological counseling to victims of digital side effects.

KT explained, “The Digital Citizen Project received a good evaluation at the WSIS Prize for instilling a proper awareness of digital culture in lower elementary school students, who are most vulnerable to digital side effects such as addiction and over-immersion, and for providing easier and more fun education to children using AI speakers.”
