Hanwha Systems will collaborate with Seoul National University to develop core source technologies and cultivate global talent in the space, artificial intelligence (AI), and defense industries that will lead Korea's future industries.

Hanwha Systems (CEO Eo Seong-cheol) announced on the 6th that it signed a 'MOU for joint industry-academia research in the defense industry and ICT/AI-based space field' with Seoul National University (President Yoo Hong-rim).

Through this agreement, Hanwha Systems will select detailed research topics that will contribute to strengthening core defense and ICT capabilities linked to space and AI technologies, based on its 40 years of experience in the defense electronics business, and will conduct technology exchanges and cooperation necessary for smooth research and development activities by students.

Seoul National University plans to conduct domestic and international academic research and related technology development with high industrial value in cooperation with Hanwha Systems and strive to produce results.

Hanwha Systems expects to secure key technologies that will lead the defense and ICT sectors by carrying out various industry-academia projects with Seoul National University until 2029, including: △design of low-orbit communication satellite payloads; △network technology for linking 6G communication systems and satellite networks; △advancing object recognition AI technology used in ship navigation and autonomous operation; and △developing a system to respond to disturbances in autonomous unmanned systems.

Through this agreement, talents who will lead the global next-generation industry will be brought together in the defense & miHanwha Systems explains that its goal is to encourage students to pursue careers in ICT and actively develop their expertise in this field, helping them lead the global innovation industry. Students with outstanding research achievements will also be provided with opportunities such as scholarships and job placement opportunities.

Meanwhile, Hanwha Systems has been implementing a 'government space internet' since November of last year through the 'Commercial Low-Earth Orbit Satellite-Based Communication System Project', which is the first in Korea to build a low-earth orbit communication network suitable for the military.
