With just a personal Gmail account, anyone can install and use Gemini Code Assist on GitHub, Visual Studio Code, and JetBrains IDEs, and it is expected that all developers will be able to bridge the skills gap using AI tools.

Google Cloud announced on the 26th that it has released a free public preview version of 'Gemini Code Assist for Personal,' an AI-based coding support tool for individual developers.

This allows students, freelancers, and startup developers to use AI coding features without any cost burden.

According to a report by Google Cloud DevOps Research (DORA), more than 75% of developers are currently using AI in their daily work, and more than 25% of Google's new code is code generated by AI and then reviewed and approved by engineers.

Accordingly, Google Cloud launched Gemini Code Assist for personal use to enable all developers to bridge the skills gap using AI tools.

This tool, based on the Gemini 2.0 model, is available worldwide and supports natural language coding in various languages, including Korean.

This allows developers to generate, explain, and improve code using only natural language prompts.
<bFor example, a website developer might be asked to perform tasks such as generating simple HTML forms or writing email sending scripts that include weather forecasts.

In addition, the personal Gemini Code Assist supports up to 180,000 code completions per month and provides a chat context window that supports up to 128,000 tokens. This allows you to handle large files, understand the entire code structure, and automate repetitive tasks.

Google Cloud provides Gemini Code Assist for free to individuals across various integrated development environments, such as GitHub, Visual Studio Code, and JetBrains IDEs, helping developers write better code and reduce code review time.

In addition, a public preview version of Gemini Code Assist for GitHub, which supports free AI-based code reviews in both public and private repositories, was also released.

Anyone with a personal Gmail account can install and experience Gemini Code Assist on GitHub, Visual Studio Code, and JetBrains IDEs, and can use the 'Send Feedback' feature in the IDE or share feedback about Gemini Code Assist directly on GitHub.

Google Cloud plans to continue fine-tuning Gemini Code Assist based on user feedback regarding the recently released preview version.
