TI Simplifies Code Development by Expanding IoT Cloud Ecosystem and Supporting Open Source Energia

TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) December 16, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) announced the expansion of its third-party ecosystem of Internet of Things (IoT) cloud service providers. Since its launch in April 2014, the TI IoT Cloud Ecosystem has added 10 new vendors, bringing the total to 18 vendors supporting various cloud options. Ecosystem vendors help customers quickly connect to the cloud and utilize TI-based IoT solutions. The new participants are Intamac/Kynesim, Keen IO/Technical Machine, Micrium, Octoblu, PTC, PubNub, Temboo, and Weaved.
Each ecosystem vendor provides cloud services for a wide range of IoT applications, including industrial, home automation, health and fitness, and automotive, based on one or more of TI's wireless connectivity, microcontroller (MCU), and processor solutions (for details on participating vendors and services offered, see TI's IoT Cloud Ecosystem).
In addition, various ecosystem vendors support Energia to make code development easier. Energia is an open-source, community-driven, wiring-based independent development environment (IDE) and framework that facilitates rapid firmware development on TI MCU architectures such as MSP430™, TM4C, and SimpleLink™ wireless MCUs. Through easy-to-use APIs and libraries, you can interact with the cloud with just a few lines of code. Energia enables developers to focus on developing differentiated applications and reduce the time spent implementing Internet protocols or low-level drivers. With support for pre-packaged built-in features for major cloud partners, including IBM’s IoT Foundation, Temboo, and PubNub, Energia eliminates the need to manually download and load libraries.

Additionally, TI's Code Composer Studio (CCS)™ v6 can now import Energia projects/sketches. CCS offers a unique migration path from Rapid Prototyping (RP) to development and final productization. By switching to CCS, developers gain access to debugging capabilities and the features of a full-fledged IDE. TI's Cloud Ecosystem
The 18 companies participating in the TI IoT cloud ecosystem each provide services that can meet the increasing demands of IoT, such as data integration into business processes, data analysis, customized user portals and smartphone apps, and compatibility with various wireless technologies. TI's IoT Cloud Ecosystem is open to cloud service providers seeking to offer differentiated services and implement value-added services based on TI's IoT solutions. In addition to the 10 new participants, 2lemetry, ARM, Arrayent, Exosite, IBM, LogMeIn, Spark, and ThingsSquare are also participating. New vendors in the TI IoT cloud ecosystem
Kyle Wild, CEO of Keen IO, stated, “By integrating Keen IO into Technical Machine’s Tessel and undergoing full testing, we have enabled the easy creation of sophisticated real-time dashboards by applying Keen IO analytics to the constant stream of real-world data coming from Tessel’s sensor modules. Keen IO processes all data and can scale from hundreds of thousands to millions of devices. The exact steps for applying Keen IO and Tessel can be seen here. Keen IO and Technical Machine have joined TI’s IoT ecosystem to more seamlessly develop complete analytics tools for future IoT applications.”
“Kynesim CEO Paul Fellows said, ‘Kynesim has worked closely with TI for a long time, and we are very pleased to work with Intamac to provide clients with batch development and custom IoT systems that combine Intamac’s ENSO cloud platform with TI’s wireless and RF technologies.’” Kynesim stated, “We selected TI for these systems because we know that TI provides high reliability and a long lifespan for the designs implemented by TI.”

Vaughn Shinall, Business Development Manager at Temboo, stated, “Through a wizard-style web interface, Temboo can generate Energia code that enables TI silicon to interact with over 100 websites, APIs, databases, and services. With this integration, developers can easily send SMS messages to Twilio, display datalogs in Google Sheets, and even send tweets from embedded hardware. The integration of Energia and Temboo is a powerful tool for rapidly connecting hardware to the IoT.”
