The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and KEPCO KDN have embarked on joint research for the digital transformation of the domestic energy industry. The two organizations plan to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as next-generation grids and renewable energy application technologies and accelerate technology development for building a sustainable energy industry.

On the 15th, KETI signed a business agreement (MOU) with KEPCO KDN for cooperation in the energy ICT sector in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

The signing ceremony was attended by KETI President Shin Hee-dong, KEPCO KDN President Park Sang-hyung, and officials from both organizations.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will conduct joint research focusing on the following areas: △next-generation grid technology, △electric power system operation system (EMS) application technology, △renewable energy utilization, and △artificial intelligence and security application technology in the energy sector.

KETI is focusing on developing IoT-based industrial energy management, renewable energy generation prediction and control using digital twins, AI-based energy management systems, and virtual power plant (VPP) operation technology through the Energy IT Convergence Research Center, etc. KEPCO KDN is also contributing to the intelligence of the energy industry based on its electric power ICT technology capabilities.

This agreement is significant in that it establishes a convergence research foundation that links the digital energy technologies of both organizations. The combination of KETI's smart energy technology and KEPCO KDN's power ICT technology is expected to produce tangible results in the digital transformation of the domestic energy industry.

The two organizations plan to plan joint R&D research, promote technology workshops and personnel exchanges, and actively share cutting-edge infrastructure. Through this, it is expected to contribute to increasing the sustainability of the energy industry based on digital technology.

KETI President Shin Hee-dong said, “The convergence of energy and electronics technology is the key to achieving carbon neutrality,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen cooperation with companies in the electric power and energy sectors to achieve technological independence and build a sustainable energy industry.”
