Global semiconductor company STMicroelectronics (ST) is actively working to ensure the stability of automotive system designs and protect long-term investments by extending its supply program for automotive MCUs to 20 years.

ST announced on the 28th that it guarantees the supply of its SPC58 automotive microcontroller (MCU) family until at least 2038. This extends the existing 15-year supply program to 20 years.

The SPC58 MCU is suitable for various automotive applications such as communication gateways, powertrains, chassis, and car bodies, and consists of a total of seven product lines.

In particular, the SPC58 H series is equipped with up to 10MB of non-volatile memory (NVM), ensuring supply until at least 2041.

Luca Rodeschini, Head of ST’s Automotive MCU Business Unit, said, “Through long-term support for the SPC58 family, customers can reliably launch new projects and continue to leverage existing development assets,” adding, “We respond to evolving automotive electric architectures through a flexible platform-based approach and scalability.”

The SPC58 portfolio consists of five general-purpose lines suitable for body applications such as smart gateways, lighting, and door locks, and the SPC58 E and SPC58 N high-performance lines for powertrain and chassis safety.

These products also support complex motor control through various timers and FlexPWM functions.

In addition, the SPC58 MCU is based on up to three e200z4 32-bit Power Architecture® cores and ST's 40nm embedded flash process, and features enhanced communication and security capabilities by incorporating multiple ISO CAN-FD compliant MCAN modules, an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet controller, and a Hardware Security Module (HSM). It also supports ISO 26262 ASIL-B and ASIL-D functional safety levels.

ST directly controls the entire process from design to production through its own semiconductor fabs, supporting customers in successfully extending product lifespans and enabling the continued use of SPC58 MCUs in new designs. Previously, in 2021, the long-term supply guarantee for the SPC56 product family was also extended.

The SPC58 product family consists of more than 40 products, ranging from the economical SPC58 2B in a 10mm x 10mm eTQFP64 package to the high-performance SPC58 H in a 19mm x 19mm FPBGA386 package, and pricing and sample requests can be made through ST Korea.
