LG Electronics has entered the liquid immersion cooling market in earnest with SK Enmove and US liquid immersion cooling specialist GRC (Green Revolution Cooling), opening a new chapter in AI data center cooling technology.

On the 27th, LG Electronics signed a business agreement (MOU) with SK Enmove and GRC at its Pyeongtaek Chiller Plant in Gyeonggi Province to expand its AI data center cooling solution business.

Through this agreement, the three companies will pool their core technologies to jointly develop an immersion-based cooling solution and verify its commercial viability through demonstration testing. LG Electronics will provide precision cooling control technology, including chillers, coolant distribution units (CDUs), and fan wall units (FWUs). SK Enmove will provide the immersion cooling fluid, and GRC will provide the immersion cooling tank.

Liquid immersion cooling removes heat by directly immersing electronic devices, such as servers, in a special, non-conductive cooling liquid. Compared to conventional air cooling, it boasts higher thermal conductivity and superior energy efficiency. In particular, it can dramatically reduce a data center's Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), ensuring both environmental friendliness and economic efficiency.

Through this collaboration, LG Electronics plans to expand its cooling solution portfolio and strengthen its position as the optimal cooling provider in the AI data center market. “We have pursued collaboration to maximize energy efficiency and cooling performance, which are key challenges for AI data centers,” said Lee Jae-sung, head of LG Electronics’ ES business division. “We will increase our competitiveness in the global market with differentiated solutions.”

Meanwhile, LG Electronics recently unveiled a new CDU product that more than doubles cooling capacity at the 'Data Center World Asia 2025' in Singapore, and is continuing to achieve success by supplying cooling solutions to global AI data centers, including NEOM City in Saudi Arabia, Hyperscale in the U.S., and Jakarta in Indonesia.

SK Enmove is leading the way in developing Korea's first immersion cooling fluid in 2022 and investing in GRC, a company that is spearheading the creation of a global immersion cooling ecosystem. GRC was the first company to commercialize immersion cooling technology in 2009 and is leading market expansion through collaborations with global IT companies.
