The list of finalists for the '2025 Create the Future Design Contest', a global design competition sponsored by innovative electronic components distributor Mouser Electronics, was officially announced on the 29th.

This contest challenges engineers and innovators from around the world to design next-generation technologies, and this year, leading technology companies such as Intel®, Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), and COMSOL participated as co-sponsors.

Mouser has been sponsoring this event for over a decade, expanding the field of technological innovation.

“We applaud the creativity and passion of the finalists,” said Kevin Hess, Mouser’s Senior Vice President of Marketing. “Fostering technological innovation is a core part of Mouser’s mission.”

The competition, hosted by SAE Media Group and Tech Briefs magazine, a division of SAE International, received more than 16,000 design ideas from over 100 countries around the world.

Participants proposed innovative solutions across a range of fields, aiming to improve quality of life, enhance healthcare services, and develop sustainable technologies.r />
The finalists will compete for a $25,000 prize at the final presentation judging on November 7th.

Looking at the major finalists, the aerospace and defense industry's finalist is Silent Sentry, a software-defined passive sensor for stealth detection and enhanced battlefield survivability.

In automotive and transportation, a multi-modal traffic detection system was selected, in electronics, a technology that improves audio D/A performance by 100 times, and in energy and propulsion systems, an electrochemical-based brine treatment system, 'DESWAI', was selected.

In the manufacturing and materials category, 'REACT®', an automated coffee capsule recycling technology, in the medical category, wearable technology for trauma and vascular health monitoring using blood viscosity, and in the robotics and automation category, 'Woodpeckr', an innovative technology for utility construction methods, were selected as finalists.

Launched in 2002 by Tech Brief magazine, the Design for the Future Contest focuses on encouraging engineering innovation and discovering product designs that create tangible social value.
