Vicor is strengthening its intellectual property (IP) business based on high-density power system technology and is embarking on full-scale supply chain stabilization in the artificial intelligence, automotive, and industrial markets.

Vicor announced on the 5th that it has launched an IP licensing strategy to build a resilient and scalable supply chain in the AI, automotive, and industrial sectors.

This is drawing attention in conjunction with the recent International Trade Commission (ITC) ruling on patent infringement and the stabilization of revenue following the expansion of licensing agreements.

In 2025, the ITC issued a Limited Exclusion Order (LEO) prohibiting the import into the United States of bus converters that infringed on Vicor's patents and computing systems equipped with them.

The order lasts for the duration that the infringing patent is valid and applies to all infringing products of the contract manufacturer.

Subsequently, major OEMs and hyperscale operators entered into licensing agreements with Vicor, and it is projected that revenue of approximately $300 million will be guaranteed by 2026.

Vicor recognizes the IP licensing business as a growth engine and is strengthening the enforcement of its rights through its in-house licensing team and external legal team under the leadership of Legal Counsel Andrew D'Amico.

CEO Patrizio Vinciarelli stated, “Licensing revenue in the third quarter exceeded R&D investment,” adding, “The R&D investment ratio of 18% of sales demonstrates Vicor’s commitment to technological innovation.”

Vicor-led 800V, 48V, and 12V bus converters and vertical power supply (VPD) Technology is essential for implementing high-performance computing.

In particular, the high current density of the ChiP™ foundry, 5th generation ChiP, and 2nd generation VPD is driving the growth of both the module business and the IP licensing business. OEMs and hyperscale operators are simultaneously seeking supply chain stability and technology protection through securing or renewing licenses.

Vicor is preparing additional legal measures to block contract manufacturers from distributing infringing products in the market through patent-infringing power module manufacturers. This is a strategic response aimed at protecting IP and establishing market order, and is expected to further solidify Vicor's technological advantage.
