The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) was selected for a total of nine projects in the 2025 National Research and Development Excellence Awards, including seven in the information and electronics field, one in the energy and environment field, and one in the convergence field, achieving the highest number of projects for seven consecutive years and being recognized for its achievements in future core technologies such as 6G, AI, and the metaverse.

ETRI recently announced that a total of nine research achievements were selected for the 2025 National R&D Excellence 100 announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT, continuing its record as the research institute with the most achievements for seven consecutive years.

The achievements selected this year are 7 in the information and electronics field, 1 in the energy and environment field, and 1 in the convergence field. In the information and electronics field, a total of 7 projects were included, including: △ successful demonstration of the world's first 200 Gbps 6G wireless transmission technology and securing of core 6G original technology; △ commercialization of the world's first omnidirectional tactile sensing robot hand based on a 'flexible pressure sensor' that feels tactile like a human; △ domestic production of Korea's first 0.15 μm GaN process technology and support for the production of GaN MMIC MPW; △ quantum-responsive data security technology safe from quantum computer cryptography hacking threats; △ development of ultra-high-definition planar video encoding and 6DoF stereoscopic video encoding technology for ultra-realistic spatial media services; △ technology to build a 3D 5G emergency communication network based on an aerial vehicle for rapid response to communication disasters; and △ development of 6G satellite communication technology to realize an integrated ground-satellite network.

In the energy and environment field, the "spatial adaptive AI smart lighting platform" was selected, and in the convergence field, the "adaptive interference reduction technology based on a civilian-military shared frequency environment" was selected. Among these, the "successful demonstration of the world's first 200 Gbps 6G wireless transmission technology and securing key 6G source technologies" and the "commercialization of the world's first flexible pressure sensor-based omnidirectional tactile sensing robot hand with human-like tactile sensation" were selected as the top awards.

Since the implementation of the National R&D Excellence Award system in 2006, ETRI has achieved the most awards among domestic research institutes, with a total of 170 projects selected. These achievements were derived from areas directly linked to national strategic technologies, such as artificial intelligence computing, artificial intelligence creativity, three-dimensional communications, hyper-realistic metaverse, and digital convergence.

Over the past five years, ETRI has achieved 1,292 technology transfers, earned KRW 197.7 billion in patent royalties, and spawned a total of 202 technology-based startups, including 95 startups and 107 research institutes. Furthermore, ETRI has secured a total of 1,312 international standard patents, including 380 international standard patents, over the past five years.
