The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) invited businesspeople and heads of institutions representing the Gyeongnam and Changwon regions as researchers to discuss future technological cooperation plans.

KERI announced that it held a meeting with approximately 30 regional leaders at its Changwon headquarters on the 8th, sharing the institute's major achievements and future directions for collaboration.

This symposium was planned to mark KERI's 50th anniversary and to strengthen its ties with local industries and more actively promote the role and responsibilities of researchers to the local community.

KERI Director Kim Nam-gyun personally gave a presentation introducing the institute, looking back on the institute's past 50 years and presenting future strategies.

President Kim emphasized, “KERI, which was established in Changwon in 1976, has produced a wide range of research and development results encompassing national key industries and future cutting-edge technologies for half a century,” and “We have secured global competitiveness in various fields such as power grids, new and renewable energy, high-voltage direct current (HVDC), eco-friendly power equipment, electric propulsion mobility, robots and AI-based industrial application technologies, nano-new materials and batteries, power semiconductors, and electric medical devices.”

During the on-site tour, attendees' attention was focused on KERI's core infrastructure: the internationally accredited testing and certification facility for power equipment and the AI CNC demonstration center.

Director Kim &ld“KERI has the world’s second-highest level of testing and certification capabilities, and the certificates issued here are recognized worldwide,” he said. “KERI serves as a solid stepping stone for domestic companies to overcome the high technological barriers they face when entering overseas markets.”

In particular, the AI CNC Demonstration Center introduced the current status of domestic production of CNC (CNC numerical control), a core technology in the machine tool industry, and AI-based smart technology.

President Kim expressed his commitment to technological independence by saying, “I will instill confidence in the industry that Korea can produce top-quality CNCs,” and received a great response from the businesspeople in attendance.

KERI plans to use this year, its 50th anniversary, as the first year to expand communication with the local community.

Starting with this meeting, the institute aims to strengthen its cooperative network with local businesses and institutions and to realize its vision of becoming a "research institute that leads the future, attracts companies, and works with the public."

A KERI official stated, “Close collaboration with local industries is essential for our researchers’ technologies to be utilized in actual industrial settings,” and added, “We will continue to discover technologies that companies need and expand support that can be experienced in the field.”

Meanwhile, the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) is a government-funded research institute specializing in electricity under the National Research Council of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and ICT, and is the only comprehensive research institute in the field of electricity in Korea.
