Infineon Launches Embedded Security Chip for Advanced Mobile Communications
March 18, 2015, Seoul — Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seung-soo Lee) has launched new embedded security controllers for premium smartphones and smart wearable devices. Adding to the SOLID FLASH™-based SLE 97 family, these products provide industry-leading memory capacity of up to 1.5MB in an ultra-small package. For new features such as FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) using fingerprint authentication, secure cloud services, NFC-based applications, and advanced online payments, the security controller requires memory capacity to securely store biometric information or encryption keys.

Infineon has extended its Chip Scale Package (CSP) technology to high-end security controllers, enabling it to provide package solutions that are significantly smaller than standard Surface Mounted Device (SMD) packages. For the first time in the industry, Infineon has already supplied embedded security chips in ultra-small packages for new smart devices of major terminal customers.
It provides flexibility for high-end security controllers with an ultra-small PCB footprint, enabling system designers and equipment manufacturers to meet the demands of new markets such as smart wearables.

The SLE 97 security controller family is designed to achieve maximum performance and high security, meeting the demands of the high-end UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card) and embedded SE (Secure Element) markets. Security controllers with 1.5MB and 1.3MB memory capacities have now been added to this family. These products are based on Infineon’s security chip architecture, which utilizes the ARM® SecurCore™ SC300™ combined with Infineon’s cache and SOLID FLASH™ technology. Standard features across all platforms include 32kB RAM and cryptographic coprocessors capable of both symmetric and asymmetric keys. In addition, system performance can be improved with the provided 2kB internal cache, and it can meet even very demanding applications such as fingerprint recognition match-on-card. Since it is backward compatible with the existing SLE 97 product family, migration to this new platform can be conveniently done, thereby reducing development costs.
All SLE 97 security controllers provide Single-Wire Protocol (SWP) and ISO7816 interfaces. Additionally, some products provide SPI and I2C interfaces, enabling innovative and creative use cases. All products are provided in various form factors.
