Garmin has launched the Varia Rearview 820, an integrated radar and taillight with enhanced rear vehicle detection capabilities. This product features enhanced rear traffic awareness while riding.

Garmin unveiled and officially launched the Varia Rearview 820 on February 11th. The new product features "Advanced Vehicle Tracking," which analyzes the speed and path of approaching vehicles to determine the level of risk and provide alerts. When paired with a Garmin Edge cycling computer or dedicated app, it provides visual and audible alerts to detect approaching vehicles behind or changing lanes.

A vehicle size detection feature has also been added. This feature is designed to more intuitively recognize road conditions by categorizing approaching vehicles as small, medium, or large and displaying them on the screen. The detection field of view has been expanded compared to previous models, enabling vehicle detection up to approximately 175 meters away.

It also supports a "Same Speed Tracking" feature, which detects vehicles following at the same speed. Some smartwatches offer both vibration and audio alerts, and the feature is available on select devices through Garmin's public beta program.

The brightness of the taillights has also been enhanced. According to Garmin, it can be identified from up to 2 km away and supports various lighting modes, including daytime, nighttime, constant-on, and Peloton modes. When slowing down or stopping, a flashing brake light signals to vehicles behind. The battery lasts up to 24 hours in daytime flash mode and up to 30 hours in radar-only mode. The USB-C charging port and new seatpost mount have also been added for improved installation and charging convenience.

Susan Lyman, Garmin's vice president of global consumer product marketing, said the product is designed to help riders see their surroundings more clearly, even in congested road conditions.

The Varia Rearview 820 went on sale on February 11th on the official Garmin Korea website, and will be available nationwide at Garmin brand shops starting February 25th. The suggested retail price is 449,000 won.
