LG Innotek (CEO Lee Woong-beom) has taken the lead in the global wireless charging components market by encompassing both transmitters and receivers.

The company announced that it has been mass-producing transmitter modules for wireless charging pads and supplying them to North American smartphone accessory manufacturers since the end of February. This marks the first time the company has mass-produced transmitter modules. Its receiver modules are already leading the global market. LG Innotek has embarked on business expansion as interest in smartphone wireless charging functions has grown and demand for charging pads and stands equipped with transmitter modules is expected to increase rapidly starting this year.

A wireless charging device consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter serves to supply power to the smartphone in the form of a charging pad or stand. The receiver is built into the smartphone and generates an induced current by interacting with the transmitter to charge the battery.

This wireless charging pad equipped with an LG Innotek transmitter module is a high-performance product with a charging efficiency of 70%. The charging efficiency of existing products is around 65%. In addition, it enhances user convenience with a slim design shaped like a teacup saucer, with a thickness of 11.4mm.

In addition, this product has obtained the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) 'Qi' standard, the most widely used wireless charging standard. It can be used with any smartphone equipped with a receiver module of the same standard, regardless of the manufacturer or model.

LG Innotek plans to secure a leading position in the transmitter module market, leveraging its technological prowess that has led the wireless charging receiver module market and its capabilities in the IT materials and components business. The company is the world's number one in the wireless charging receiver module market. According to market research firm Techno Systems Research (TSR), LG Innotek recorded a 42% market share in the receiver module market in 2013. Starting with the Google Nexus 4 in 2012, we have been steadily preparing for the market's opening by supplying wireless charging receiver modules to global mobile phone manufacturers such as LG Electronics, Motorola, and Kyocera.

In addition, LG Innotek has internalized the entire process, ranging from wireless charging material development to module design and finished product manufacturing, by integrating core technologies secured in its IT materials and components business, including smartphones, displays, and substrate materials. This enables Original Development Manufacturing (ODM) optimized for customer requirements, such as with this wireless charging pad. The company previously unveiled the world's first hybrid wireless charging receiver module equipped with both wireless charging and Near Field Communication (NFC) functions in 2012, applying LG Innotek's wireless communication, power circuit design, and new materials technologies.

In addition, LG Innotek has secured magnetic resonance technology capable of charging two or more devices at once from a distance, along with the magnetic induction technology applied to the transmitter module of this wireless charging pad.
