AMD is extending performance improvements to existing users by applying the latest upscaling technology to RDNA 3-based graphics cards. A key feature is that it provides graphics quality improvements through software updates alone, without the need for hardware replacement.

AMD announced on the 15th, via a presentation by Jack Huynh, General Manager of the Computing and Graphics Group, that it plans to support 'FSR Upscaling 4.1' on RDNA 3 architecture-based GPUs this coming July. The support applies to the Radeon RX 7000 series, and the feature can be used on existing products without a separate hardware upgrade.

FSR Upscaling 4.1 is available by installing the latest AMD software drivers. This technology is described as a feature that provides a more stable gaming environment by enhancing clarity relative to resolution and compensating for frames through machine learning-based image upscaling.

The supported range is presented as over 300 games at launch. AMD believes that this will enable it to expand the application of upscaling technology across the entire Radeon graphics ecosystem.

AMD plans to continue supporting not only next-generation users but also previous-generation users. FSR upscaling 4.1 is also planned to be supported on RDNA 2-based GPUs, with the rollout scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The company stated that the purpose of this update is to provide improved graphics quality to a wider range of users.
