Verkada has implemented an AI-based integrated physical security platform at Chung-Ang University's Seoul and Da Vinci campuses. Moving away from the existing CCTV-centric reactive approach, Chung-Ang University has established a proactive campus safety response system that combines AI video search, real-time alerts, and mobile remote monitoring.

Verkada announced on the 20th that Chung-Ang University has upgraded its campus security operating system by adopting its platform. As a large university operating two campuses in Heukseok-dong, Seoul and Anseong, Chung-Ang University has considered rapid situational awareness a critical task due to its constantly open spaces and diverse entry and exit routes.

Chung-Ang University has been conducting security monitoring using an existing CCTV system, but the process of directly reviewing footage after an incident occurred placed a heavy burden on time. In particular, the Da Vinci Campus faced difficulties in immediately identifying dangerous situations due to the combination of a vast site and vulnerable outer zones.

With this implementation, Chung-Ang University can now manage video footage from both campuses on a single platform and monitor the situation through the control center and mobile devices. The person in charge receives a notification when an abnormal situation occurs and can determine whether to conduct an on-site inspection.

AI search functions are utilized to reduce investigation time. Chung-Ang University explained that it can quickly find necessary footage based on conditions such as clothing, vehicle information, and license plates, and can also check movement flows across multiple cameras more efficiently than before.

Privacy protection features have also been applied. The Verkada platform provides access control management, audit logs, and face blurring functions, and Chung-Ang University plans to use this to reduce unnecessary exposure of personal information during security investigations.

Chung-Ang University is considering expanding the scope of platform utilization to include vulnerable outdoor areas, dormitories, parcel storage facilities, and environmental monitoring. Verkada Korea stated that university campus security is shifting from a simple record-based approach to a data-driven, proactive response system.
