AMD and Microsoft Expand Collaboration on AI Infrastructure

The two companies aim to strengthen the competitiveness of Azure's AI services and cloud infrastructure by building an AI data center platform that encompasses GPUs, CPUs, networking, and software.
AMD announced on the 20th that Microsoft is introducing the AMD Helios RackScale platform to Azure and expanding the deployment of virtual machines (VMs) and Pensando DPUs based on next-generation AMD EPYC processors.
The core of this collaboration is the introduction of AMD's next-generation AI platform, Helios. Helios is a rackscale platform that integrates the AMD Instinct MI455X GPU, 6th generation AMD EPYC 'Venice' CPU, Pensandor networking technology, and ROCm software, designed to support large-scale AI training and inference environments.
Microsoft plans to leverage Helios to support Azure AI services, customer applications, and cutting-edge AI model inference workloads.
The two companies are expanding cooperation not only in AI infrastructure but also in the area of cloud computing services.
Azure adds a new VM series based on 6th generation AMD EPYC 'Venice' processors. The newly released Azure HDv2 supports agentic AI and data pipeline workloads, while Azure HXv2 supports semiconductor design workloads.
AMD explained that this will expand the scope of utilizing Azure's AMD-based infrastructure across the fields of AI, data analytics, and engineering.
This collaboration also extends to the realm of networking infrastructure.
Microsoft is expanding the deployment of AMD Pensando DPUs, and the two companies plan to combine Azure Boost with AMD technology to drive improvements in cloud-scale networking performance and efficiency.
AMD CEO Lisa Su stated, “Microsoft’s adoption of new AMD technology is a significant milestone in expanding next-generation AI infrastructure.”
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, “Through our collaboration with AMD, we will provide customers with the performance, scalability, and choice needed to build next-generation AI applications.”
AMD announced that it plans to supply the Helios platform to customers, including Microsoft, starting in the second half of 2026.
