OpenAI Launches Free ChatGPT Program for Academic Researchers

OpenAI announced on the 31st that it has launched the 'ChatGPT for Academic Researchers' program for academic researchers in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering and has begun accepting applications.
We plan to start with 10,000 people this summer and expand the scope of support to up to 100,000 people by 2027.
There are 70 target institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, and among them, 17 are located in Korea, the highest number by country.
Program participants can use OpenAI’s AI models, including the GPT-5.6 model family, on ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex for free for one year.
At launch, GPT-5.6 Sol Pro, specialized for solving high-difficulty science and math problems, will also be provided.
Expanded access permissions for Deep Research, increased usage limits, and expanded context windows are also supported.
In the field of life sciences, more than 75 research skills are available, including genetics and genomics, sequencing, single-cell analysis, protein modeling, and new drug development.
Connectors are also provided that connect to public genomic and clinical databases, satellite images, data platforms, literature management tools, etc.
Codex supports code writing, debugging, and dataset analysis, while ChatGPT Work supports long-term project tasks such as writing research grant applications, reviewing literature, and drafting papers.
The program-dedicated workspace features business-grade security and privacy capabilities, and researchers enterOpenAI explained that powerful data is not basically used for model training.
Even if you belong to the target organization, usage rights are not automatically granted.
Qualified researchers must apply individually to certify their affiliated institution and submit plans for ongoing research and AI utilization.

Cohesity Unveils AI Data Security 'Maestro'
Coherity unveiled 'Coherity Maestro' on June 22, integrating data protection, recovery, and security intelligence directly into enterprise AI workflows. Based on the open Model Context Protocol (MCP), it interoperates with existing AI platforms such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, and Google Gemini without requiring separate connectors, and applies the same role-based access control (RBAC), authentication, and audit capabilities as direct access. The core feature is a headless cyber resilience architecture that enables AI agents to drive data security functions without a separate interface. OpenAI Expands AI Cybersecurity 'Daybreak'
OpenAI expanded its AI-based cybersecurity initiative Daybreak on June 23rd, unveiling the official version of GPT-5.5-Cyber and the Codex Security plugin. The two tools automate the entire process from vulnerability discovery through verification, risk assessment, and patch development. GPT-5.5-Cyber achieved 85.6% on the CyberGym vulnerability reproduction benchmark.
