Samsung Electronics has introduced a heat pump-based home heating solution utilizing air source heat and electricity to the domestic market for the first time. It is interpreted as a move to enter the market in earnest in line with the trend of transitioning to electric heating, as it generates more heat relative to energy input compared to conventional fossil fuel boilers.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 31st that it installed an 'EHS heat pump boiler' at a detached house in the Aewol area of Jeju and held a plaque unveiling ceremony.

The actual installation took place on June 25, and an event announcing the expansion of supply was held at the household on the 30th.

This product operates by absorbing heat from the outside air and utilizing it for indoor heating and hot water.

Samsung Electronics explained that the coefficient of seasonality (SCOP) is 4.9 under the 35℃ water outlet condition, which is the standard for floor heating, and that it generates heat output nearly five times that of power consumption.

The SCOP under 55℃ water discharge conditions is 3.78.

It is reported that it can supply high-temperature water up to 70°C even in an environment of minus 15°C.

A design to counter freezing has also been applied.

They stated that they have ensured operational stability in cold environments by equipping the outdoor unit with an electric heater and an anti-freeze valve, and adding a heater at the bottom of the product to assist with drainage.

In terms of ease of use, key functions can be operated via the touch display on the heat pump unit, and checking indoor and water outlet temperatures, as well as remote control, is supported through the SmartThings app.

Park Jong-yeon, the first customer to have it installed, said, “I look forward to it in terms of cost savings and hot water usage once winter heating begins in earnest.”

Kim Yong-hoon, Senior Vice President and Head of Samsung Electronics Korea, stated, “We plan to provide an efficient user experience based on technology verified in actual residential environments and contribute to the expansion of the high-efficiency heating market.”
