STMicroelectronics (hereinafter ST) has added a 3A output series to its STGAP3S gate driver family based on reinforced galvanic isolation. ST stated that it is possible to simultaneously achieve design simplification and component cost reduction in circuits requiring low gate drive current.

ST announced the expansion of the STGAP3S product family on the 31st.

The newly released STGAP3S3S is optimized for driving SiC MOSFETs, while STGAP3S3IF is optimized for driving IGBTs.

Both products are available in SO16W wide body packages and can be purchased starting at $1.93 per unit for orders of 1,000.

All STGAP3S products support high-voltage rails up to 1,200V and provide up to 9.6kV transient protection and up to 200V/ns common mode transient immunity (CMTI).

It has secured long-term reliability in high-voltage environments by obtaining international safety certifications such as UL 1577 and IEC 60,747-17.

Application areas include charging stations, energy storage systems (ESS), solar inverters, industrial electric vehicles, induction heating equipment, and general-purpose drives, pumps, and fans.

The STGAP3S3 series incorporates a complete active Miller clamp including a clamping MOSFET to suppress inductive turn-on and shoot-through current of the power switch.

Thanks to the integration of MOSFETs into the chip, PCB area and Bill of Materials (BOM) can be reduced.

On the other hand, the 6A STGAP3S6 and 10A STGAP3SX series are equipped with a pre-driver for external MOSFETs to increase flexibility in clamping speed adjustment.

All products are equipped with diagnostic pins for soft turn-off via desaturation detection, undervoltage cutoff (UVLO), and overheating cutoff functions.

It also supports negative gate voltage to prevent unintended turn-on and ensure stable switching..

Evaluation boards EVLSTGAP3S3S and EVLSTGAP3S3IF for the new 3A model are also provided.

Both boards feature a half-bridge structure with pre-configured protection functions and are equipped with test points and diagnostic LEDs.

The entire STGAP3S product family is currently in mass production.
