Launch of nRF93M1-LABA with GCF Certification
Nordic Semiconductor is scaling up smart modem supply for Cat 1 bis-based IoT device development. The strategy is to reduce development complexity and shorten time-to-market through pre-certification and global frequency band support.
Nordic Semiconductor announced on the 24th that the smart modem module 'nRF93M1-LABA', which supports multi-regional frequency bands, has obtained Global Certification Forum (GCF) certification and has entered full commercial supply.
The company also stated that it has begun sample supply of the global band version 'nRF93M1-LACA', which features pin and software compatibility.
The nRF93M1 is a product focused on reducing complexity in supply chain management, cloud connectivity, and development environment setup that can occur during Cat 1 bis-based IoT product development.
The module can be connected to various host MCUs via UART or USB and supports secure connection with nRF Cloud without requiring separate integration processes.
Additionally, Nordic explained that developers can leverage GCF-certified and global band products to switch between regional and global products without redesigning hardware or firmware.
The nRF93M1 development kit provides nRF Connect SDK and an AI-enabled development environment. Through this, it supports device management, over-the-air firmware updates (FOTA), and observability functions from initial prototype development through field deployment.
The product is designed for data-intensive IoT applications including asset tracking, shared mobility, POS terminals, remote healthcare, gateways, smart energy and metering systems.
Nordic is currently collaborating with major customers in related fields and is proceeding with actual product design projects.
The nRF93M1 development kit is currently being supplied through global distribution channels. The nRF93M1-LABA will begin mass production supply from September, and the nRF93M1-LACA is scheduled to begin mass production by year-end following sample supply in September.
