Xilinx Korea (Country Manager Ahn Heung-sik) August 21, 2015 – Xilinx announced that the Open-Source Virtual Reality Consortium has adopted Xilinx All Programmable Devices. This enables the implementation of the Open Source Virtual Reality (OSVR) Hacker Development Kit, the industry's first fully upgradeable virtual reality headset. This development kit allows virtual reality developers to create content on a fully modular platform within OSVR and includes positioning and head tracking devices, a display, and dual-lens optics.

OSVR, co-developed by Razer, a leader in high-performance gaming hardware, software, and systems, provides the best virtual reality experience by establishing open standards for virtual reality input devices, games, and outputs. Xilinx, a member of the OSVR ecosystem, supplies core technologies that accelerate the deployment of virtual reality platforms, reducing development time along with various interface standards including HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB.

Lau Lee Yang, Director of OSVR Business Development at Razer, said, “Xilinx FPGAs and all-programmable SoCs provide customizable options, allowing hacker development kits to be reprogrammed in diverse and easy ways. System variations are also possible by adding additional features, such as algorithms for multi-sensor and computer vision processing.” He also added, “Before long, using Hacker Development Kit hardware will eliminate unnecessary software processing tasks, such as correcting optical distortion, and enable image enhancement functions.”
